Charlie Rose - “The Future of Newspapers”

Fascinating roundtable discussion about the failed web business model for most newspapers. Robert Thomson from the WSJ had some great quotes in the discussion:

You have to make a distinction between general newspapers, where you’re seeing creative destruction digitally compressed and a commoditization of content. And that’s why people aren’t paying, because they can’t make a distinction
Google devalues everything it touches. Google is great for Google, but it’s terrible for content providers, because it divides that content quantitatively rather than qualitatively. And if you are going to get people to pay for content, you have to encourage them to make qualitative decisions about that content.
